Education for Ministry
Education for Ministry (EfM) is an in-depth theological education extension program created by The University of the South (Sewanee) and supported by Episcopal Dioceses across the country. The program has been in existence for 30 years, with more than 65,000 students participating. The primary purpose of EFM is to guide laypersons in discerning and responding to God's call for their own unique, personal ministry.
The complete course of study is a four-year curriculum covering the following:
Participants meet in seminar groups of 6 to 11 people and are led by a Sewanee-trained facilitator. Groups usually meet weekly during the academic year (September - May) to discuss the week's lessons and participate in a guided theological reflection. No prior study of scripture or theology is necessary.
